Hospitaller Iron Shorts
Bear the cross of the knights who defended the Holy Land and served the sick.
MIND – Know what you wear.
The Hospitaller cross – The Knights Hospitaller, the Order of St John of Jerusalem, bore this eight-pointed cross. They began by running a hospital for sick and poor pilgrims in Jerusalem, won recognition from Pope Paschal II in 1113, and took up arms to defend the Holy Land. Tradition links the eight points to the eight Beatitudes. When the knights settled on Malta in 1530, people began calling it the Maltese cross, and the order still serves the sick and the poor today.
